Unplug from being busy

Unplug from being busy

Unplugging from being busy may be the kindest thing that you do for yourself.   Being busy has reach epidemic proportions.  It is taking a toll on people’s time, energy and health.  We have electronic apps to automate our lives, but it seems as though they only add to the overall state of busyness.   People send emails expecting quicker and quicker responses.  Then there are text messages, Whatsapp, and social media all of which add to the sense of overall busyness.

I have worked with senior managers who work twelve hour days and at weekends.   The thing is they didn’t appear to be any more effective than their counterparts who worked fewer hours.   On the other hand, people who are effective determine in advance what their key priorities are, and they stick to those.    They maintain discipline, focus, and clarity by focusing on their key outcomes.

We each have an opportunity to unplug from busyness by stopping and considering what activities need to be eliminated from our schedules or curtailed for a while.  It may mean disconnecting our devices or not answering emails or going on social media until later on in the morning.   Instead use this time to slow down, think and reflect.   Think about what you need to think about so you can see what you need to see, so you can do what you need to do.  The most successful people schedule the time just to think.  Constructive thinking time is never wasted time.

Give yourself permission to unplug from being busy and connect to peace.   Give yourself restorative gifts of prayer, deep reflection and clarity.

Your rested self will thank you.

    1. Good question. I have defined (after a long while:) what I want to blog about and, how I want to serve my audience. Story Driven by Bernadette Jiwa and Storybrand by Donald Miller was a great help. Once you have the ‘core’ of your offering it makes it infinitely easier to decide and plan what you want to write. Trust this helps.
