This week’s quiz is on long-term sickness absence. The same rules apply – you have to rely on the knowledge in your head, so no peeking at the policy or googling the answers! You have 20 minutes to answer the following questions:
- What is the maximum number of days which constitutes long-term absence under your organisation’s sickness policy?
- What is your organisation’s procedure for reporting sickness absence?
- What are the keep in touch requirements (with your manager) when you are on sick leave?
- What is a reasonable level of contact during long-term sickness?
- What is a long-term sickness review meeting?
- Do you have to consent to go to occupational health?
- What is a reasonable adjustment?
- What is a phased return to work?
- Are you entitled to be accompanied at a formal sickness meeting?
- What is your contractual sick pay entitlement?
- How much is statutory sick pay?
- Can employment be terminated on health grounds?
How did you do? Again for the answers, you will need to check your organisation’s sickness policy. Here are three reasons why you need to be familiar with your organisation’s sickness policy:
- More likely than not, you signed up to agree to the procedure. Plus, it’s your reasonable service.
- It’s important to know what is a reasonable level of contact during long-term sickness.
- It’s crucial to be know your sick pay entitlement so you can cover your commitments.
The motivation behind the quizzes is to prompt you to a) address any gaps you may have in your knowledge b) for you to be proactive in your knowledge rather than reactive. Remember, ignorance is not bliss, and prevention is better than cure.
