What steps have you taken?

I’ve been writing about the importance of developing HR wisdom. I’m curious to hear about what steps (if any) you’ve have taken to build your HR wisdom? Here’s a quick challenge for you to see how many of the following you can check off:

I have:

  • Put the protected time in my diary to read my organisations policies and procedures (one of the most important steps).
  • Learned how to keep my head so I can keep my confidence.
  • Signed up to free online training with ACAS – https://elearning.acas.org.uk
  • Visited or planned to attend an employment tribunal.
  • Attended HR training or signed up for HR training provided by your employer?
  • Subscribed to an employment law firm for free regular updates and training.
  • Listened to podcasts, read a book or listened to an e-book.
  • Observed or plan to see an employment tribunal shortly (in the next month).
  • Shadowed a senior manager.

Take action in ten minutes or less

If you haven’t taken action yet, start now, take the first step so you can build momentum. Becoming HR-Wise is a sound investment for you and your working life. If you’re still not convinced here are three benefits:

  1. Your self-confidence will increase.
  2. The skills are transferable to other areas of your life.
  3. You can count it towards continuing professional development.

As I wrote in the blog post ten things, you can do to increase your HR-know how everyone can take action on any of these points in ten minutes or less. If you’ve taken steps, well done, keep going and, remember to be HR-wise.
